In this issue of Latter-day Woman Magazine, you will read a lot about what it means to be an elect lady. Each author has her own unique perspective and insight. But it was Emma Smith who was first told that she was an ‘elect lady.’
Elect means that she was called by God, as are you and I. But just because we are called, doesn’t mean that we are chosen.
As Melinda W. Brown shares in her article, Chosen and Choice, “To be or to become chosen is not an exclusive status conferred on us. . . . God does not have a list of favorites to which we must hope our names will someday be added. Rather, you and I ultimately determine if we are chosen.”
In You Are Divinely Elect, Kay West shares that “He has chosen us all. There is no need to ever worry or wonder if you are one of the elect. Because you are.”
Each and every one of us are elect, but we must actively accept God’s invitation to fulfill His purpose. When He calls, will you choose to follow?
