Ten months ago, I was taking my dog on a walk. It was a warm summer day and I had just returned to my backyard. I lingered a bit to enjoy the simple beauty around me including our beautiful maple tree my husband had recently revived. Suddenly, in a moment I’ll never forget, I “Heard Him.”
That’s the simple origin of Latter-Day Woman Magazine. Not long after that, I had another experience as I was studying my scriptures and the words “Hear Him” jumped out at me. I strongly felt that it had to be the theme for Issue 02. And later, when President Nelson announced the #HearHim initiative, I knew the world must need that message.
But what happens when you don’t Hear Him?
Can I tell you a secret? I’m experiencing that right now. My family and I have been praying for an answer to a very important question for months now. And it has been radio silence. Does that mean He has abandoned us? That he doesn’t care? Of course not! I can look back at my experiences when I did Hear Him and know without a doubt that He’s there. We’re not alone. In fact, the Savior had similar feelings in the Garden of Gethsemane.
President Nelson has invited us to take steps to Hear Him better and more often. Keep doing good things. Keep praying. Read your scriptures and serve others. Be proactive and look for opportunities to share your feelings about the Lord Jesus Christ with your family and friends. Get on and stay on His covenant path. Strive with all your heart, might, mind and soul to Hear Him.
