Lord let me be like Nephi
So diligent, strong, and true
That when to work you call me
I will say “I’ll go and do”
Lord let me be like Jacob
With courage for the taking
When fiery darts I must withstand
Like him “I can’t be shaken”
Lord let me be like Enos
Who prayed his soul would rest
That I may hear my Maker say:
“Come unto me, ye blessed”
Lord let me be like Benjamin
Ne’er seeking praise nor laud
So that I may spend all my days
“In the service of my God”
Lord let me be like Alma
True repentance will I cherish
And I will labor to avoid
The thought that “one might perish”
Lord let me be like Ammon
Who gloried of thee at length
“Of myself I will not boast,
My joy lies in thy strength”
Lord let me like Abish
Who went from home to home
To inform them of thy mighty works
Like her I shall “make it known”
Lord let me be like Amulek
To all he preached salvation
In times of trial like him I’ll cry
“The righteous yield not to temptation”
Lord let me be like Moroni
Whose heart in thanksgiving did swell
If only I could be more like him
And “shake the very powers of hell”
Lord let me be like the 2000
To their promises they remained true
When asked if I will trust in my God,
“I don’t doubt, for my mother knew”
Lord let me be like Samuel
Who stood fearless upon the wall
Though arrows fly I will not cease!
Satan cannot make me fall
Lord let me be like Moroni
Though persecution be my vice
Through tears and trials, I still will cry
“I will not deny the Christ!”
Let me be like Thee, dear Lord!
Let charity within me e’er flow!
That in favor with Thee and man
I shall always continue to grow
Oh let me be like Thee, dear Lord!
Can thy attributes all become mine?
Like thee I will call to my Father
“Not my will, O God, but thine”
Lord now I will give thee my praise,
For ones who declare this glad song
May Thy spirit go before their face
And e’er their voices be strong
