Artwork: The Prophet’s Place

By Christina Sandholtz

This artwork was made with small layers of cut paper glued on top of small layers of cut paper on top of more paper (you get it). There are some colored pencil details. The gold is real gold leaf.

This artwork shows President Nelson in the place a prophet holds – between God and His children on Earth. The gold represents the knowledge and power of God descending on the prophet’s head. Then the prophet – in turn – offers it to us. I chose to depict President Nelson instead of an Old Testament prophet like Moses because President Nelson feels more tangible and it’s easier to realize that he is a man that makes mistakes. I wanted that element there. But I wanted to show that even though he is a man who makes mistakes, he still holds that unique position all prophets hold.
