Poem: Be Still and Know that I am God

Poem: Be Still and Know that I am God

My heart is heavy
today I don’t have the words
To eloquently form
A proper prayer.
Forgive me for omitting
My ‘Thees’ and ‘Thous’
I just want Heaven
To feel the heaviness
That I carry, and understand
The rest I crave.
I throw my heart out
At the feet of His golden throne.

It doesn’t come at once
But slowly a light creeps
Through the darkness
Raging in my mind.
I feel a familiar love
Of one who has always
Known and loved me.
He brings a warmth,
Both divine and eternal
That quiets the storms
In my heart and speaks
Peace to my troubled soul.

I hear it clearly in my mind,
“Be still and know that I am God.”
In those words, I understand
That my problems will not fade.
My father reminds me that
I need not be afraid for
The creator of Heaven and Earth
Is with me in my corner.
The darkness will keep raging,
But I do not have to submit in fear.
I need to trust, rely on my faith
Of the one who succors me.
