How Has The Proclamation Blessed Your Life?

“I love the beautiful, succinct wording that of that inspired document. I feel myself cheering as I read and read it and saying, “yes! That’s exactly it!” I’m so grateful for the Proclamation. I have a vivid memory of laying in my parents living room as a child when Gordon B. Hinckley read it. I turned to my dad and said something like, “dad, isn’t that kind of like a no-duh?” (Can you tell I was a 90’s kid) He told me to hold onto that, because there was a reason we were being giving that beautiful Proclamation.”

“I love this document! It has solidified my testimony over the years that marriage and family are the foundation of our society and they are the purpose of God’s plan. It has also given me direction in raising my children. We often schedule our lives with the proclamation in mind: “…principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.” I’m grateful it gives me something tangible to help support my testimony in these days of so much confusion.”

“I was 12 years old when President Hinckley first read and announced The Family Proclamation. I don’t remember much of this historic talk, but I do remember always having The Proclamation displayed in my home growing up. When I got married, I also hung it up on the wall of our home. And as the world seems to stray further and further from family values, The Proclamation has become more and more vital to me and my family. I am so grateful for living prophets who are the literal mouthpiece of God to teach, warn, and strengthen us when we need it.”

“A while back I was SO frustrated with all the fighting. We were checking all the boxes: family prayer, family scripture study, working together, one-on-one meetings with mom and dad, dinner together most nights – yet, there was so much contention! I started praying about what I was missing. Wholesome recreational activities was my answer. Here are some ideas I found that meet the need of being active and having fun together:

Any of these things provide an opportunity for us to watch, appreciate and share what we see in each other. Notice how your children are growing. Watch them walk, run, race. Have a content time.”

“My husband is not a member of the Church, but we are both committed to living the principles of The Family: A Proclamation to the World. What I never realized until I was married is that The Proclamation does not require you to be a member of the Church. You can follow its teachings because they are universal and apply to everyone. And when you do, your family will be blessed.”
