Summer is my favorite time to date my spouse! The list of date night activities are endless, and the weather is perfect! I love getting out to enjoy the sun or staying in where it’s nice and cool. The days are long and the nights are warm and the sky’s the limit for date night. I hope this list will give you some new ideas to step outside of your regular date night routine.

Movies in the park or at the drive-in

Bring your favorite homemade popcorn or movie treat to enjoy during the movie. You could also set up a projector to watch a movie on the side of your house after the kids are in bed. Or put a pile of blankets outside and watch something on your laptop or tablet. Don’t forget the blankets, pillow and bug spray!

Enjoy a sunset together

Cuddle up in a blanket and talk about life while the sun goes down. Put your phone on silent and resist the urge to snap a million pictures. You could also go on a local hike, to an overlook area perfect for watching the sun set. Just enjoy the time together! Sit outside and watch the stars come out after the sun has gone down.

Have a meal on the patio of your favorite restaurant

Going out to eat is a classic date night activity and it’s even better when you can do it al fresco. Research restaurants in your area with patio dining. Make a list of all of the ones available in your area. Then make a point to eat out at each one at least once this summer. And don’t forget to ask to be seated outside when you get there!

Play mini golf

Seek out fun mini golf courses in your area and plan a date for a bit of friendly competition. The best time to go to the mini golf course is after dinner, when the temperature has cooled off a bit. This would be a really fun group date as well!

Go fishing

Fishing is a low key, relaxing date and a great opportunity for a bit of bonding. If you live in the United States, you can visit the takemefishing.org website to find the best fishing holes near you and find out how to get your fishing license for the day. Pack some food and enjoy each other’s company for a few hours. If you aren’t catch and release people, you can finish your date off with a fresh fish meal that you cook together.

Take a late night walk

There’s something refreshing about summer night air. Go on a walk together after the sun has set and the world is quiet. The quiet night air and fresh evening breeze make for excellent conversation and quality time.

Go out for ice cream

Nothing says summer like ice cream. Try a variety of ice cream and frozen treat shops near you. Make the delicious treat a third wheel on all of your summer dates.

Make dinner together

Summer is the perfect time for making a meal together outside. Plan a meal that you can make together on the grill, smoker or over a fire. Experiment with a new dish or making something you’ve been too scared to try. Then sit outside and enjoy eating whatever you created together.

Visit the Farmer’s Market

You can support local business and enjoy fresh produce and goodies by visiting a Farmer’s Market. You’ll find local vendors, farmers, and other businesses. A lot of times there are samples to try before you purchase. It’s a great place to hang out for date night.

Have a water fight

On a hot day, nothing will cool you off better than a water fight. Fill up a bunch of water balloons or grab your favorite super soakers. Decide on the boundaries for your fight and have fun together. Then enjoy popsicles while you dry off in the sun.

Date night is a great way to connect with your spouse and have fun together like you did in the beginning of your relationship. Take some time away from “adulting” this summer and spend time together. Whether you try one of these date night activities or come up with your own, you’ll never regret spending time with your spouse!
